It's time to present our next guest for ‘101’ series. With great pleasure we introduce you One of House music’s true pioneers, DJ Sneak!! Self-proclaimed “House Gangster” and owner of I’m A House Gangster music label, Sneak has helped shape the course of dance music for more than 20 years; Alongside DJ’s Derrick Carter and Cajmere (AKA Green Velvet), Sneak popularised labels such as Cajual and Relief, creating a whole new fan-base in Europe and stoking a new scene in London. Like many of his peers he never went away, his sound stays true to its essence – funky filtered disco-influenced house and tough, jacking beats – have revolutionised and redefined house music for well over 15 years.
Having begun his DJ’ing career in 1983, Sneak continues to be at the top of his game: non stop beat bumpin’ sets are a one of a kind experience in the electronic music circuit and a barrage of top quality releases over the last 20 years have culminated and just keep on coming. We will have the opportunity to listen him on 13th August at famous Ambasada Gavioli in Izola, alongside his fellow colleague, another house music pioneer, Roger Sanchez. This event will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the summer season on the Slovenia coastline.
What’s your favorite piece of gear – something you couldn’t live without?
A Lighter! I need it all the time. Gotta smoke it up around the world!
Which do you prefer – playing at enormous festivals or intimate clubs?
I'm more into any crowd that is not trendy and boring. I can handle playing a gig in Mars if it's all proper!
Which is the most mesmerizing club that you’ve ever played at?
Honestly … I played a club in Mallorca called Tito's very legendary and so 70's throwback too! It's what a club should feel like. A whole lot is neon half naked Go-Go dancers and old school laser lights very Xanadu Disco!
What is your best and worst experience at a gig and why?
Best is always when things are great and aligned in unison from flight to hotel to nice food and smoke and good people ready to party. The worse is when all of the above really suck and you wonder why are you even there when you can be at home chilling.
Do you have any interests beside music?
Many things: I love cooking, painting, cannabis smoking, fishing, Halloween Decorating, Cannabis Tasting, airbrushing, teaching and being a great Dad.
Do you enjoy sunset or sunrise sets?
A good sunset is a beautiful thing but a great sunrise makes you feel like you are alive for another day! Both for me!
What do you like and what do you hate about the music industry?
I like a lot of great things that usually make me proud of what I'm doing and why I do it, my passion has allowed me to experience beautiful moments that I will never forget. I hate fake, phony, pretentious, overrated, fashion mannequin, trend following "snobs" that think they're God's gift to Djing while they're posing actors with zero talent making themselves look great in social media which they all pay for, but I hate the most the people that put them in that position the first place: Agents, Managers & Promoters etc. which all wanted to be DJs themselves but never had the skills.
If you could pick any artist to do a b2b set, who would it be?
What’s your biggest fear?
Not being able to listen to sweet music everyday.
What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you on a gig?
I'm still alive and kicking, still lots to come but I can say the funniest is bumping someone off the decks and started to play then realized I was taken to the wrong room!
Could you pick one timeless track?
Masters At Work - I can't get no Sleep! Truly an amazing track.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Sure, regardless of what you all read about me or hear about me all the rumors are just that. I have real love, passion, respect & adoration for the Craft of Music Production and DJing this is why i often speak from the heart often feeling Misunderstood by everybody cause most are Zombies following trends.
