The electronic music scene in Ex-Yu area has really grown in the last few years. From countless festivals, new clubs and venues to local DJs and producers that are slowly putting a name for themselves. One of these young producers is Belgrade-based Jovan Vucetic. Despite the fact that he's not even in his twenties, Jovan has already made a bunch of releases on solid labels such as NastyFunk, Freakin303 and Nurvuous just to mention few.
With a batch of forthcoming releases lined up on labels such as New Violence, Lapsus and Be One Records, Jovan Vucetic definitely belongs in the "ones to watch" list.
What was the funniest / most bizarre request you’ve ever had while playing?
I really haven't had any so far but I'm sure there will be lots of hilarious requests in the future!
Can you describe your studio setup for us?
My studio setup is very simple at the moment. My computer, a pair of monitors and a sound card. Works perfectly for me though!
Could you tell us the story about your first gig?
My first gig was a b2b set with a friend of mine in a small bar. We really didn't have any high expectations for the night and as we started playing the bar was pretty empty, as the night went on though place filled up and people were liking the music and dancing so I was pretty happy with the outcome!
Name three artists that currently inspire you.
At the moment I really look up to what Loco Dice, Jamie Jones and The Martinez Brothers are doing.
Recall the worst experience of ‘killing the vibe’ in the club.
I didn't have any really bad cases so far but probably the worst for me is when I accidentally loaded the track on the wrong deck twice during the set and stopped the music.
What do you do before and after your set?
Before my set I like to go over all the music I have ready while still at home, then I usually go out with friends for some drinks and it's off to the club! After the set, it really depends on the set time. I usually stay at the party 'till the end as I always like to hear other DJ's playing that night too.
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
It's not really a job but the biggest struggle for me at the moment is having to do all the high school work while pushing my music career. It takes up so much time and I could use it make more music!
What are your favourite labels at the moment?
My favourite labels at the moment are Hottrax, Cuttin' Headz, Desolat, Fuse, Snatch. There are really so many good labels out there at the moment but these are influencing my sound the most!
Imagine a cold winter, a fireplace and two glasses of wine—what song would you play?
Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
Last but not least. What's the best advice you've ever received?
Always keep your head down and stay humble no matter what, because even when you're high up you can be brought down easily.
