Climbers used to be a duo of Mexican DJs and Producers from Mexicali. Project founded in 2011 by two friends from different musical backgrounds. Jay Blakk and Kiko Deal decided to start a new project together and define a new sound in their country. Classical house percussions, empathetic electronic baselines, old school vocal sampling and atmospheric synth pads are what their musical environment sounds like. After plenty releases with amazing results, the duo signed with the notorious German label Get Physical, followed by an amazing response from the people and the rest of the world.
Their career really started picking up and put them on the map as one of the most promising new acts to spring out of Latin America. It was only 9 months ago that the duo had to face a tragic loss as Kiko Deal passed away in an accident and sent the whole scene into mourning. With a lot of grief, Jay decided to keep pushing and is still using the moniker to perform and create music. Here are his 5 favourite tracks selected for SolvdMag.
Mijo - Dadada
"This track is a dancefloor bomb. Always works great to throw people off and I love everything that Mijo does. Since I moved to Mexico City I'm always blown away by this guy and he is now a great friend."
CamelPhat - Hangin Out With Charlie
"Love this track from start to finish. All the samples used on vocals are great, using the stories of Rick James told on the Chapelle Show through the late Charlie Murphy."
Gorillaz - Ascension feat. Vince Staples (Nic Fanciulli Remix)
"In this one, I love the rock vibe of the track. How the main synth works so well with the vocal, this is a definite staple track in my sets and a hands-in-the-air vibe. The girls go wild with this one."
Dj Fronter - Mariposas
"Really cool vibe, great percussive sounds and the vocal is the cherry on top of the cake. Love how the track is written and just how everything blends great even if it sounds a lot at times but the percussion, cymbals and hi-hats take great control over the groove of the track. Excellent beach track."
Black 8 and Arrab - Papyrus
"The main lead, the pads, the drums. Everything on point, this project is one of the recent ones I discovered and fell in love with it immediately. Glad to always hear this new sounds and get inspired right away."
