The legendary club K4 in Ljubljana, a regional point of alternative music and social movements since the 80s, has finally sailed into calmer waters after years of unsuccessful rescue operations. The new team, that took over in October, has stabilized the club and made a solid ground for the seasons to come, which already shows results. In the last couple of months, K4 hosted some of the most sought-after international electronic artists, while uniting and widening the specter of local and regional artists performing in the basement of Kersnikova 4.
The recently sold-out return of Jesus Loved You with Valentino Kanzyani and friends proved that K4 is still in good shape and it can cater to the taste of the most demanding audience, as well as those, who just want to put on their dancing shoes and sway to some nice rhythms. K4 will go through a major upgrade this summer – new Ambiental decor, as well as a spruced up sound, light and technical system. Expect an even more genre-diverse program in the next season, new residencies and a special mid-week student program dedicated to top-notch clubbing. But first, let’s check what and who the season finale is bringing to K4.
These are the highlights you shouldn’t miss:
Klub K4 season finale 20/5 – DRUMWISE 15 B.DAY
A must for deebee and bass heads, with more than a dozen domestic talents honoring the jubilee of one of the driving forces on the regional drum & bass scene.
The K4 resident crew will host one of the most outstanding pioneers of the east-coast US electronic scene, also known as ‘the guy who released Nine Kraviz’ debut record’. His return to the industry is represented by the establishment of the Underground Quality brand in 2001, which quickly became a synonym for exceptional house music and was transformed into a record label in 2004.
One of the region’s leading electronic live acts, which you’ve probably noticed as the Gramatik supporting act in Križanke, has just released a new album Stolen Boats.
The joint venture of Matter and Your Gay Thoughts, with the Dutch master of underground house vibes.
24/6 – Season Closing: MIKE SERVITO (USA)
K4 will close its ground-breaking season with another goodie for house aficionados. He started his career when raves were still in diapers and was a member of a generation, that created this unique way of life and understanding of electronic music, that we know today. Those were the times of DJs like Claude Young, D Wynn, Derrick Carter and Mike Huckaby, that Detroit never forgot ... and Detroit never forgot about Mike Servito either, with his upfront dirty deep and bitchy taste, which had an impact on Detroit’s nightlife for over a decade. From being a resident at Ghostly’s Untitled and Sass, then moving to Brooklyn and starting a residency at The Bunker, to being represented by Beyond Booking and Odd Fantastic, Mike Servito definitely left his enormous mark.
