It's only been 2 amazing years since the humble beginnings of Crkva (which actually means the "Church"). It is a unique and magical place, hidden inside Ružićeva street next to the Rječina river. Last year the club won the prestigeous title awarded by Klubskascena.hr dubbing them the "best small club in Croatia".
Old car wash with high ceilings was breathed in a new life. It is the high ceilings that led to a somewhat crazy idea: "the club will be called the Church!" But the idea has become a reality. The reality, not only in its name, but also in what Crkva represents - a community.
Fellowship was created within the first drifts of plaster and paint. With just a little help from skilled craftsmen, the founders of Crkva managed to transform the venue into a real club. At the entrance you'll find blue and purple on the podium. Blue is the color of introspection and insight, purple stands as a symbol of simple but powerful realization that everything is connected with everything. After two months of tweaking and editing - first events took place inside the club. It soon became clear that Crkva is fast becoming an essential part of the Rijeka's cultural and music scene.
Fridays have become a favorite destination for students and those close to them. Throughout the last season club also hosted many hip-hop and rock live performances. In addition to musical events, there were also events of humanitarian character. In January the club has successfully organized a distribution of hot meals to Rijeka's most needy citizens.
"Crkva is a community of open-minded people. Crkva is a movement dedicated to electronic music culture in all its variations, shapes and sounds. The club in itself is art, creation, present, future, smiles, revolution and evolution. It has to be the closest thing to the old ethos of P.L.U.R. which stands for peace, love, unity and respect. These are the words that follow us everywhere. Because in just one year we have managed to create a community. We managed to put a smile on people's faces."
What gives Crkva it's musical stamp?
Crkva is an electronic music sanctuary in all its variations, including record-filled Saturdays with electronic rhythms blasting through their superior sound system.
